As we continue our fight to protect our patients, our professions, and the future of healthcare in Hawaii, these financial support benefits are available to the home health/hospice, respiratory therapist, and lab professionals bargaining units engaging in a strike.
To take advantage of any or all of the benefits that follow, you must meet the following criteria:
1- Are a dues-paying member of HNHP in good standing, unless recently organized within the prior 12 months.
2- Honor the picket line by not engaging in any work for Kaiser Permanente for the duration of the strike.
3- Picket for at least six (6) hours per day of the strike.
a. Oahu – Tuesday through Saturday (5 days)
b. Big Island and Maui – Tuesday through Friday (4 days), because picket lines are only active those days.
4- Signed in for each picket shift to verify participation.
HNHP established the HNHP Strike Fund in October of 2024. This fund was created to benefit members exercising their rights to withhold their work to secure a better future. The fund pays $500 to every member participating in the October 14 to 19, 2025, strike, who meet the aforementioned criteria.
HNHP members will soon be able to access interest-free loans in collaboration with AFT, in partnership with the AFL-CIO Employees Federal Credit Union. This same benefit is available to our union siblings in OFNHP and is being extended to HNHP as we stand united in solidarity. These loans can help cover essential expenses if your pay is interrupted due to the strike.
We are working with the credit union and that relationship will be in place shortly. Once we have the infrastructure in place for members to apply, the online application will be made available to everyone on the HNHP website.
Here’s how it works:
Get ready now:
If you think you may need a strike loan, take a few minutes to set up an account with the AFL-CIO Credit Union in advance, as soon as the application process is ready, within a day or two.
You must have an active account with the credit union to access this benefit.
A $5 minimum balance is required to open your account. HNHP will cover this deposit for members opening an account to access the interest-free loan benefit.
HNHP also has a Member Hardship Fund to help those facing immediate, urgent financial
needs due to lost income from the strike. This fund provides hardship grants—up to $500.00
per member—to help with critical expenses such as:
These grants do not need to be repaid and are intended to make sure no member falls behind during this fight. The Hardship Fund is administered by HNHP, and members can apply directly through the HNHP Strike Loan and Hardship Committee.
