2026 AFT Convention Delegate Nominations and Election

HNHP hereby provides official notice of the nomination and election process for delegates to the AFT National Convention, which will be held July 16–19, 2026 in Washington, D.C. 

Federal law prohibits the use of any union or employer funds to promote the candidacy of any person in a union election. This prohibition applies to cash, facilities, email systems, equipment, vehicles, office supplies, and other resources of HNHP, any other union, or any employer.

Accordingly, neither HNHP nor any employer email systems, messaging systems (including voicemail), employer-paid or union-paid cell phones, or workplace systems may be used for campaign purposes. Members may not campaign on union-paid or employer-paid time. Union officers and employees may not campaign on time paid by the union. 

HNHP will elect up to 13 delegates to attend and represent the union at the AFT National Convention.

Delegates will participate in convention proceedings, including voting on resolutions and representing the interests of HNHP members.

Nomination Period:
March 29, 2026 through April 13, 2026 (11:59 PM HST)

• Any HNHP member in good standing may nominate themselves or another eligible member.
• Each member may nominate up to 13 candidates.

To be placed on the ballot, all nominees must:

1. Be nominated during the nomination period, and
2. Submit a completed Nomination Acceptance Form via the HNHP website by the nomination deadline.

Nominees who do not submit an acceptance form by the deadline will not appear on the ballot.

Nominee eligibility will be verified by the HNHP Election Committee.

If more than 13 eligible candidates are nominated and accept nomination, an election will be conducted.

Election Period:
April 15, 2026 through April 30, 2026

The election will be conducted electronically. Eligible members will receive voting instructions and a secure ballot.

•  Each member in good standing is entitled to one vote.
• Members may vote for up to 13 candidates.
• Voting is not ranked.
• The 13 candidates receiving the highest number of votes will be elected as delegates.

In the event of a tie affecting the outcome, the tie will be resolved in accordance with HNHP election procedures.

•  Only HNHP members in good standing are eligible to nominate, run for delegate, and vote.
• Eligibility will be determined by the HNHP Election Committee in accordance with union rules.

Ballots will be distributed electronically via a secure voting system. Members will receive instructions via email.

This election will be conducted in accordance with applicable federal law, including the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA), and the governing documents of HNHP and AFT.
